The first high-speed train service from Shanghai to Kunming, capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province, also known as the Spring City due to its nice weather, will begin to operate next Thursday, the Shanghai Railway Bureau said on Dec 26th.
据上海铁路局本月26日披露的消息，上海到昆明的第一条高铁线路将于下周四开始运营。昆明是中国西南部省份云南的省会，因宜人的气候而被冠以“春城”的美誉。
The recently-completed Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway will cut the travel time between the two cities to only 10 hours and 36 minutes — a big relief to many local travelers going to the popular travel resort city famous for its beautiful scenery.

The journey on regular trains previously took 35 hours and 34 minutes. Now travelers could save more than two thirds of their previous travel time on the rail.

The first three high-speed train services from Shanghai are scheduled to depart next Thursday and Friday from Hongqiao Railway Station. Ticket sales were launched the day before yesterday, priced at 879 yuan for second class seats and 1,475 yuan for first class seats.
最初开行的三趟列车计划于下周四和周五从上海虹桥火车站始发。车票从前天开始对外发售，二等座售价879元，一等座售价1475元。

Shinkansen is a network of high-speed railway lines in Japan operated by five Japan Railways Group companies. Starting with the Tōkaidō Shinkansen in 1964, the network has expanded to currently 2,764.6 km of lines with maximum speeds of 240–320 km/h. The network presently links most major cities on the islands of Honshu and Kyushu, and Hakodate on northern island of Hokkaido, with an extension to Sapporo under construction and scheduled to commence in March 2031. The nickname bullet train is sometimes used in English for Shinkansen high-speed trains.
